Well first of all, THANK YOU, revsfan98 for this super-excellent find! Senri is indeed amazing! I liked this one the best: Man... she just tears right into those things, doesn't she? And yes, I believe she is already on her way to becoming a star! At least, as much of a star as drummers get to be... they're always underrated, IMO. Which brings me to our beloved . Nobody can ever replace her on the drum kit, or in our hearts. Mizu was also an amazing drummer, but very different from Senri. She was direct and to the point, with such beautiful timing... an uncomplicated drummer in the same way that Ringo Starr was an uncomplicated drummer. Both were highly underrated. But think of what Mizu accomplished... From "For Tomorrow" to "Hitoshizuku" and back... she was THE girl behind the set that made those songs work. That will never be replaced by anyone. Mizuho was it! Senri has proven that she has incredible skills... and I'm sure we're all waiting with high hopes to see what she does with them. Will she be in a band? Will it be pop, or jazz, or progressive, or all of these? Only time will tell. I, for one, can't wait to find out!!!

I don't think there is a right or wrong. Music is subjective to me. I have played a set that I thought was horrible on my part and got rave revues. Did they hear something I didn't? Was I being too critical of myself? The point was if it sounded good to other people, it was good. Music is to enjoy. As far as Senri, I heard timing changes during transitions and such. If it were "club music" boom, boom, boom, boom, I would expect perfect cadence. She's still a bit unpolished but will be amazing in later years if she keeps up the pace. Another example is Ringo Starr. I never thought much of his skills until I tried to duplicate his "fill's" and style. Now I think the guy is a genius for what he had to drum to. Here's some trivia.........The first band I was in our BIG song was "For What It's Worth" by Buffolo Springfield. How many people will get that reference?

Wow, I can't believe all the 'Ringo' references, I cut 5-6 lines about Ringo out of my last comment. Like Paul MacCartney's quote " I don't know why people say Ringo's not a good drummer. I can set my watch by him." I've been a fan of his since 1978 when I got to see him live, and not playing an 'uncluttered' style. One of the things I have always liked about ZONE concerts was their clean, crisp, energenic performances. And I agree with DaCrow here, music is so subjective. When people ask me what my favorite songs are I always answer "On what day?"

there are certain parts of the final live that remind me of the beatles, but i honestly don't know their music that well. maybe it's just that traditional 4-piece band set up with ringo/mizuho raised up in the back and the 3 others in front. anyway, one song where the drumming really gets to me is during glory colors. even during the slow parts where it's just miyu singing and mizuho doesn't seem to be doing anything special, there's just something really... i don't know ... crisp and comforting about her drumming. i'd say starting at about 2:08 is where i really notice it, and the camera angle from 2:31-2:38 is what makes me (visually) think of the beatles. edit: forgot link oh btw ken - this is exactly the kind of place where it's ok to get carried away!

Thanks for the SCANDAL vid, gir2413... they really ARE fun to watch!
I do think that they're playing their own instruments for "Don't Say 'Lazy'", though... they've simplified some of the parts a lot... if it was studio musicians playing, it would be a fancier arrangement... The video is out of sync in a big way though, so it's hard to follow the solos and strumming visually. It's a good version of the song, though... and I have to give SCANDAL credit for doing something so current for a cover song, too. That takes guts.
K-ON!'s first season has ended, but I'm pretty sure the show isn't over. They'll be back with a new season in a few months, I bet...

K-On season 2 has been confirmed for the summer season just an FYI for you fans. Also, you might have heard of So Ra No Wo To, a story with a totally different setting from K-on, but the same premise. instead of the guitar, the main character learns the trumpet in an army.

Hahah that's interesting. I'm eagerly waiting for the second season. It's really a great anime. I don't know if it's just me, but I feel that there are a lot of similarities between K-ON and ZONE. To get into both of them in the same year 2009, it must be some kind of fate.

Right you are, Helixius. The similarities between K-ON! and ZONE are why I became interested in K-ON! in the first place! That, and "Don't say 'lazy'", which was such a great single... Now, fudepen has become my favorite song from season 1. Thanks zerojinnu for posting it! And of course I'm eager for season 2 to begin. Season 1 brought us some of the best current J-Pop I've heard in 2009, and I'm hopeful that the new season will have even more good songs for every fan! I was telling a friend about K-ON! the other day, and watched the first episode all over again... it was really fun, and even better now than I remembered it. Mostly, I think we need a little fresh life in J-Pop right now. It's been kind of a dull year so far. I'm counting on K-ON! to deliver!
